省略结构在考研英语中的考查主要体现在句子的理解层面，主要分为两类：一类是借助于其他词语的省略，如使用助动词代替前文出现过的动词，使用代词代替提到过的名词；另一类直接省略，如略去上下文的重合部分，通常是主语(和/或)谓语。
一、 对省略结构的掌握要求：
1.快速识别句子省略的内容;
2.补全句子省略的内容。常见的省略现象会出现在并列结构中、状语从句中、名词性从句中和定语从句中。
二、省略现象会出现的结构：
1、形容词性(定语)从句关系代词的省略
(1)that, which引导定语从句并在从句中做宾语时，可以省略。
(2)that引导定语从句并且从句是there be句型时，可以省略。
Eg: No one would have the time to read orlisten to an account of everything there is going on in the world.
(3) 常使用不定式作为省略的手段；当用as引导非限制性定语从句时，常省略系动词。
Eg: All tests require a potential candidate with whom (the tests) to compare DNA.
2、副词性(状语)从句的省略
(1)虚拟语气句省略条件连词if，从句采用倒装结构。
Had it not been for the timely investmentfrom the general public, our company would not be so thriving as it is.
(2)由although, as if, if,no matter + wh-, once, though, unless, until, when, where, whether, while等连词引导的表示时间、地点、条件、让步、方式的状语从句，可省略主语和助动词be，保留ing分词、ed分词或表语。这样省略的条件是：从句中被省略的主语必须与主句的主语一致；谓语动词必须含有be；从句必须与主语和be动词一起省去，不可只省略主语而保留整个谓语，也不可只保留主语而省略谓语。

3、比较从句中主语的省略
在这种省略结构中，也可以把than或as当成关系代词。因为省略主语，要特别注意识别哪个词是省略了的主语，进而选择谓语的数量、时态和语态。
There ought to be less anxiety over theperceived risk of getting cancer than exists in the public mind today.
4、名词性从句中的省略
常见的是使用不定式在主动表达中省略动词的施动者，在被动表达中省略助动词、情态动词等。
Eg: She will go to Beijing, but I don’t know how (she will go to Beijing).
5、并列结构中的省略
在并列句中，后面的分句往往省略和上文重合的部分。
Eg: I think you’ll win the race; indeed we all think so.
(so=you’ll win the race)
